Sharp Insight is seeking an hourly Strategic Communications Specialist to support a range of communications activities, reporting to the Operations Manager. The ideal candidate would be knowledgeable and passionate about the field of communications and would have a background in evaluation and/or how evaluation impacts the non-profit, public health, and/or education sectors. Key areas of focus, as outlined below, will include but not be limited to: blog development, website and social media management, brand strategy, and team contribution. The anticipated commitment for this position averages up to 10 hours per week.
Key Areas of Focus
Blog and Resource Development and Management
One of the Strategic Communications Specialist’s ongoing assignments will include the development and management of our blog. This includes the development of content, including evaluation resources as well as the responsibility for campaign dissemination and an increased readership over time. This position requires a strong knowledge of, and passion for, both communications and the field of evaluation. The Strategic Communications Specialist will effectively communicate a wide range of topics in a clear and engaging manner.
Website and Social Media Management
The Strategic Communications Specialist will be responsible for the ongoing content development and management of our website (Squarespace) and social media, which currently focus on LinkedIn and Twitter. This includes applying communication skills to grow Sharp Insight’s online community and promote our work in evaluation to multiple audiences across the non-profit, public health, and/or education sectors.
Brand Strategy and Ambassadorship
The Strategic Communications Specialist will be responsible for our brand strategy across media platforms and client deliverables. This includes supporting a brand redesign, currently in its initial phases. In addition to managing our online brand, the Strategic Communications Specialist will work with our team to develop and maintain a consistent “look and feel” across our work to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation deliverables for our clients.
Team Contribution
At Sharp Insight, we have a small, dedicated team. We connect and collaborate regularly to support high-quality client engagements, develop resources, and advance our internal annual priorities. In addition to ongoing virtual communication, the Strategic Communications Specialist will occasionally participate in weekly team video meetings and, as needed, in-person meetings in support of annual priorities and team connection.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required
A minimum of five years of relevant work experience in communications, including strategy and original content development
Strong knowledge of the field of evaluation and/or how evaluation impacts the non-profit, public health, and/or education sectors
Excellent time and project management skills
Excellent writing skills across multiple media formats (e.g., blog, website, social)
Efficient and effective use of website, email marketing, and social media platforms (e.g., Squarespace, MailChimp, LinkedIn, Twitter)
Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing resources (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator)
Ability to thrive in a virtual work environment, including effective independent work and engagement with a remote team
Authorizations, Location, & Supplies
Candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States. A background check will be completed prior to hiring. The primary worksite is offsite/remote, with regularly scheduled phone and/or video meetings. During the COVID-19 stay-at-home orders in effect for Sharp Insight’s main operating address in Montgomery County, MD, no travel will occur. Should that guidance change, there may be occasional travel to Kensington, MD and client sites within the greater Washington, DC region. As such, preference will be given to candidates based in the greater Washington, DC region. Candidates must have computer access with a reliable internet connection.
Compensation
At Sharp Insight, compensation is based on hours worked and, as such, bi-weekly pay will vary. The Strategic Communications Specialist’s starting hourly compensation ranges from $30 to $35, commensurate with experience.
Paid Time Off (PTO); Unpaid leave; After one year of employment, employees are eligible to enroll in a SIMPLE IRA retirement plan with 2% employer contribution
Health insurance benefits are not currently offered through Sharp Insight, LLC.
